Detailed Itinerary of the 7 Days Rwanda Wildlife Safari, Chimpanzee and Gorilla trekking safari
Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Akagera National Park.
After your breakfast, your guide will pick you up from your hotel or Kigali international airport and to Akagera National Park with your lunch en route. Akagera National Park covers 2500km2 savannah located in the northeast of Rwanda.
The park owns a variety of wildlife with over 480 bird species. Elephants and buffalo herds will be seen grazing in open savanna grasslands and dozens of different antelopes. The park also owns lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, giraffes, zebras, and among very many others.
After a long journey of about 3 hours, you will check in to the lodge/ hotel for relaxation and later you will go for a long game drive in the national park. Later you will return and stay at your booked lodge/ hotel where a nice dinner will be served.
Day 2: Morning game drive and Akagera River Boat Ride.
Early morning breakfast will be served thereafter you will go for a game drive in the park in search of wildlife. Animals like lions, leopards, African elephants, different species of antelopes, zebras, and buffaloes among others. Will all be seen in the savannah grasslands of Akagera national park.
After a successful morning game drive, you will return to the lodge/ hotel for lunch, and then later in the afternoon. You will go for a boat ride on the Akagera River for the best photographic moments. Watching hippos, and crocodiles sunbathing on the river shores and very many water birds along the river. Later you will return to the hotel for an overnight stay and dinner.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park for Chimp Trekking.
After your morning breakfast, you will set off to Nyungwe Forest National Park via Kigali city with lunch en route. Nyungwe forest is one of the largest forests in East and Central Africa. Nyungwe is abundant with flora and fauna that includes 13 primate species like colobus monkeys, mangabeys, blue monkeys, and our closest cousins’ chimpanzees. Nyungwe forest is also home to many bird species and it’s known as a bird- a watching destination with over 300 birds recorded on the checklist.
On the way to Nyungwe forest National Park after Kigali city. You will have a stopover at Butare which is Rwanda’s second-largest city where you will be able to find a museum. The museum holds every information you need to know about Rwanda’s history, culture, and religion.
You will also be able to visit the former king’s palace called Nyabisindu where you will enjoy a thrilling performance by the National Ballet and the native Intore dancers.
Thereafter you will proceed to check-in at the lodge/ hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 of the 7 Days Rwanda Wildlife Safari: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk.
After breakfast, you will leave the hotel with the help of your guide for chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest national park. The park claims 13 species of primates and it is mainly known for chimpanzee trekking. After a short briefing, you will leave to find chimpanzees, and on this trek expect to find very many species of birds and very many different monkeys.
After a memorial and a successful trek, you will leave for the hotel/ lodge for lunch. After lunch, the guide will drive you to Nyungwe National Park for a canopy walk where you will see different monkey species and birds. Later evening you will return to the lodge/ hotel for an overnight stay and dinner.
Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Breakfast will be served early in the morning at the lodge/ hotel, and later your guide will transfer you to volcanoes national park with lunch en route. Volcanoes National park is located in Northwestern Rwanda and it covers 160km2 of rain-forest. It encompasses 5-8 volcanoes in the Virunga Mountains. Volcanoes national park is home to mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, and many bird species.
The journey will take approximately 5 hours depending on the stopovers. Later you will check-in at the lodge/ hotel for refreshment. Later in the evening, you may decide to go for an evening walk or stay at the hotel for refreshments.
Later dinner will be served at the hotel and overnight stay.
Day 6 of the 7 Days Rwanda Wildlife Safari: Gorilla Trekking and community walk.
Breakfast will be served very early in the morning and after your guide will transfer you to the park headquarters for a briefing about the mountain gorillas. The team of rangers will accompany you on the trail looking for the endangered mountain gorillas. You will be given a maximum of good 2 hours to be with animals, ask questions about the gorillas and take pictures and videos of gorillas.
After a successful gorilla trekking, you will return to the park headquarters for gorilla trekking certificates and later return to the lodge/ hotel for lunch. After lunch, you may opt to go for an evening community walk, birding, or monkey watching.
Later you will return to the lodge/ hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer to Kigali international airport for departure.
Early morning breakfast will be served at the lodge/ hotel and later your guide will transfer you to Kigali International airport for departure. This will mark the end of your 7 days Rwanda tour.
