Detailed 3 Days Mount Nyiragongo Climbing Tour in Congo

Day 1: Transfer-Kigali City Tour-Transfer from Kigali to Congo

Our driver will pick you up at the airport or your hotel in Kigali. If you arrive early, you have the option of taking a Kigali city tour before moving to Congo. Kigali is relatively small compared to other African cities, but it stands out for its elegant streets and beautiful hills.

The city tour will visit the Massacre Monument, the Presidential Residence Museum, the main city markets, and artisan shops. Your guide will then begin the journey from Kigali to the sesame border via Lake Kivu.

A trip from Kigali to the Congo border allows you to see the beautiful scenery of Rwanda (green tea plantations, rolling hills, smiling locals, beautiful Lake Kivu). Lunch at Lake Kivu or the restaurant next door across the border. After lunch, go to the border immigration office.

Your Congo visa must be normal, but you must have a yellow fever card and passport before you can enter Congo. Once the paperwork is confirmed, we cross the Congo side and wait for the Virunga National Park team to take us to the dorm.

Dinner and accommodation will be held at Mikeno Lodge (Luxury) Kibunba Tent Camp (Midrange) and Bukima Tent Camp (Midrange).

Day 2 of 3 Days Mount Nyiragongo Climbing Tour in Congo: Nyiragongo trekking observation of the lava lake.

Wake up early in the morning for breakfast and be accompanied to the park office for registration and explanation of the Nyiragongo hike in Kibatoshi village (the starting point for the Nyiragongo trek). You will meet many other hikers as a starting point. If your group has slow walkers, now is a good time to hire a porter.

Do not leave the porter until you have reached the last leg of the journey. As you make your way to the volcano, you will notice that the lower slopes are filled with lush rainforest. In these forests live mammals, birds, monkeys, and rare plants. Please use this.

In particular, look for chimpanzees, monkeys, and antelopes. Raise your head and you will notice some greenery. Much of the vegetation was destroyed by the intense heat of the last eruption. The lack of vegetation is good because you can see the surrounding landscapes such as Virunga National Park, Rwenzori Mountains, other Virunga Volcanoes, Goma, Kaujivilla National Park, and Lake Kivu.

A hike to Mount Nyiragongo can take 4-5 hours depending on the general health of the hiking group. Group members are not left behind on the walk. Expect to reach the top when it is almost dark. You will immediately be enchanted by the beautiful lava lake.

Day 3 of 3 Days Mount Nyiragongo Climbing Tour in Congo: Return to Kigali from Nyiragongo.

After observing the volcano in the middle of the night and having a party with other hikers, it’s time to leave. Get up early and have breakfast prepared by Porter. The descent of the volcano begins at 8 in the morning.

If you are too tired to have time to enjoy the beautiful view of Virunga National Park, this is the time. Upon arrival at the base, you will be taken to the Congo-Rwanda border crossing. This time I will get along well with the people involved in Rwanda.
